Nehemiah House
367 Union St.
Springfield, MA 01105

At Nehemiah House, we live in an intentional Christian community for the purpose of growing together as Christians united in mission. We strive to become a family by forming close relationships with one another and by holding each other accountable. We share the work of running the household. We pray together daily and study scripture at least once a week.

We agree to participate regularly in inner city ministry or mission. We volunteer with government, secular non-profit, or church based programs that require us to be in relationship with others in carrying out the goal of the program. To date, we have tutored at Saturday school at a local elementary school, taught English and math to Somalian refugees, had community movie night at the shelter for the homeless, helped out at teen drop-in center and a home for unwed teenage moms and their babies, and have monthly prayer walks through our neighborhood.

We are committed to serving our neighbors and bringing Christ's light, joy and reconciliation to our city. We commit to living in the community for at least one year. As members move out of Nehemiah House, we encourage them to relocate to other urban centers and build similar communities.
At Nehemiah House, we acknowledge that it is by God's grace alone that we are provided with an opportunity to live, love, study and work together in Christian community.

Harbor House
29 Dartmouth St.
Springfield, MA 01109

Harbor House is a family made up of people from different families, a refuge in which we grow in faith and from which we are enabled to minister across our various vocations and callings.    We join with others who help us to know ourselves and live our lives more fully. In this we begin to know and love the world (its people) as Christ has commanded. The Dartmouth Six (the inhabitants of Harbor House ranging in age from 4 to 32) live in the McKnight neighborhood of Springfield amongst palaces and projects living in love with one another and, as we become bolder, our neighbors.

Believing that the early church had the right idea, we work to share chores, most dinners, some money, a netflix queue, and two amazing kids.

Living in a Nehemiah Community House

Pat and Debbie often say, "We aren't running a boarding house here." While the Nehemiah Community Houses are certainly welcoming to the sojourner, it isn't the primary calling of our ministry.  To be a resident of either community house (Nehemiah or Harbor) their is a process that You the applicant and We the community must go through.  People seeking permanent residency must discern in prayer whether they are willing to be committed to community life. The community must also be in prayer after reading a completed application and meeting the potential resident. If you are interested in becoming a Nehemiah community permanent resident, please email us!
